Travel tips for Jaraguá
Practical guidance for visitors to Jaraguá, on holiday or on business: what to pack, how to plan by season, care on the road, on the Serra and at the rivers, and where to confirm information that changes.
What to pack
| Season | Bring |
|---|---|
| Dry (May to September) | A light jacket for cool nights, sunscreen, a cap, moisturizer and a water bottle. Humidity drops and the heat is fierce in August and September. |
| Rainy (October to April) | Rain jacket, shoes with grip, insect repellent and a change of clothes in the car. Rivers and dirt roads turn dangerous. |
| For the Serra and trails | Closed shoes, water, a snack, sunscreen and a flashlight if going up before dawn. |
| For shopping | Company documents, a shopping list, a notebook and sturdy bags or boxes. |
On the road
- The BR-153 (Belém-Brasília) has heavy truck traffic. Take care when overtaking and at the town access junctions.
- From Goiânia, the route is via the GO-080: about 120 km, 1h40 to 2h. See how to get there.
- Check the route on your GPS on the day of travel, and download the map for offline use.
- Mind the names: search for "Jaraguá (GO)", not "Jaraguá do Sul" nor the Jaraguá Park in São Paulo.
On the Serra and at the rivers
- Park entry is free; large groups and technical visits must book with the administration.
- Leave no trash, make no fires and do not remove plants, rocks or archaeological remains.
- Avoid rivers and waterfalls in the rainy season because of flash floods. See swimming in rivers.
- Tell someone your route. See trails of the Serra.
Lodging and festival dates
There are hotels downtown, near the clothing shops and on the BR-153. During the Cavalhadas, Carnival, the week of July 29 and peak seasons for the fashion trade, demand rises sharply: book early. Renting houses for short stays is common at those times. See hotels.
Money, hours and confirmations
- The portal has no confirmed list of ATMs or of accepted payment methods; confirm with each business.
- Opening hours of shops, factories, churches and museums vary. The Casa da Cultura is open Monday to Friday (8 am to 11 am and 1 pm to 5 pm), according to the city government.
- Festival dates change every year; check the official program of the city government and the parish.
- Information that changes carries a "checked on" stamp in the portal. If you find outdated data, tell the portal (in Portuguese).
Health and emergencies
In an emergency, use Brazil's national numbers: 192 (ambulance, Samu), 193 (fire department), 190 (military police) and 191 (federal highway police, on federal roads). Local numbers and public services are in useful numbers.
