Trails of the Serra de Jaraguá
The Serra de Jaraguá State Park has the Poção Trail, the Abismo Trail, access to the viewpoints and a downhill course. Entry is free and independent visits are unrestricted, according to Semad.
The park's trails
| Trail | What it is |
|---|---|
| Poção Trail | Crosses the cerrado and descends to a clear-water pool in gallery forest. Semad asks for care because of the slope. |
| Abismo Trail | Leads to the Maria Helena dam, with views of rock walls. |
| Road to the towers and viewpoints | About 5 km of dirt road from the entrance behind the Rosário church to the free-flight ramp and the towers; the viewpoints overlook the town. It can be done by car, on foot or by bike. |
| Downhill course | About 1,600 m, with obstacles, used in national competitions (Semad). |
| Cora Coralina Trail | The long-distance trail crosses the park; the Maria Helena dam and the park headquarters are support points. See Cora Coralina Trail. |
The portal did not find the length or duration of each trail in official sources. Ask the park administration, at +55 62 3201-5295, before going.
Before you set out
- Water and sunscreen. There is little shade on the higher stretches.
- Closed shoes with good grip. The Poção descent is steep and, in the rainy season (October to April), the ground gets slippery.
- Prefer the dry season (May to September) for trails and for the pools, which are clean and have less current. See when to go.
- Tell someone your route and expected return time; do not walk alone on quiet stretches.
- Large groups and technical or educational visits must be booked with the park administration.
Park rules
As a conservation unit, the usual rules apply: leave no trash, make no fires and do not remove plants, rocks or archaeological remains. See the laws protecting the Serra in history and laws of the Serra.
What to see along the way
Cerrado trails have pequi trees, cajuzinho-do-campo and mangaba trees, and the gallery forests bring giant ferns, according to Semad. See more in the Cerrado of Jaraguá. In August and September the ipê trees bloom at the foot of the Serra.
