It operates in the mansion linked to Father Silvestre Álvares da Silva, who arrived in Jaraguá in 1833. It houses the municipal culture office, at Rua Vigário Álvares, 103, in the Centro. Museum of Nossa Senhora da Conceição

The Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, whose construction began in 1828, also works as a museum. Visiting hours vary; ask at the Nossa Senhora da Penha parish.

Largo da Matriz and Praça do Coreto

The Largo da Matriz Nossa Senhora da Penha is the center of religious life and festivals. The current Matriz dates from 1950; the first chapel, from 1748, gave rise to the church, which was demolished in 1918. The Praça do Coreto is the town's meeting point and hosts the carnival marches.

How to visit

  1. Plan the visit for a weekday so the Casa da Cultura is open.
  2. Go on foot: the main churches are a few blocks apart. See the route in the historic center.
  3. Respect worship: churches are places of prayer and opening hours can change.
  4. For the archaeological site and the ruins of the Chapel of São José, consult the park administration (see history and laws of the Serra); do not remove or scratch any remains.
