Jaraguá's anniversary: July 29

Jaraguá celebrates its anniversary on July 29, the date on which Provincial Law no. 666 of 1882 raised the settlement to city status. In 2026 the city turned 144.

Why July 29

The settlement was born in the 18th century around the gold mines. On July 1, 1833, Decree no. 8 raised it to town status (vila), named Nossa Senhora da Penha de Jaraguá and split from Meia Ponte (today's Pirenópolis). Almost fifty years later, on July 29, 1882, Provincial Law no. 666 created the city of Jaraguá. The law's date became the anniversary. See the full sequence in the timeline.

What happens during anniversary week

The official program is published each year by the Jaraguá city government. The portal publishes only confirmed dates; check official channels before traveling.

Tips for festival week

  1. Book lodging early. Demand rises sharply on festival dates. See hotels.
  2. Combine the party with a sightseeing trip. Go up the Serra de Jaraguá in the morning and leave the evening for the festival.
  3. Shopping: confirm opening hours with each clothing company, as they vary. See the shopping itinerary.
  4. Traffic: the BR-153 carries heavy truck traffic. Avoid driving at night if you do not know the highway.

Other dates in the month

The religious calendar has July celebrations in the villages, such as Nossa Senhora D'Abadia in Alvelândia, and the start of the pilgrimage season to the Monte Castelo shrine between July and August. See the religious calendar and the festival calendar.
